Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Katiba collects, how it is used, how long it is kept, and the privacy choices available to you.
Last updated: May 25, 2026
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the Katiba mobile application, the public pages at katiba.app, and support communications related to the app. It does not apply to third-party websites, app stores, device platforms, or services that Katiba does not control.
Katiba is designed as an educational and civic information app for reading, searching, and referencing constitutional content. The app can be used without creating a Katiba account.
2. Information we collect
We collect only the information needed to operate, maintain, and support Katiba. Depending on how you use the app and related pages, this may include:
- Support information: your email address, message content, screenshots, device model, operating system version, app version, and other details you choose to send when contacting support.
- Diagnostics: crash reports, performance information, and aggregated usage information made available by Apple or other platform tools, depending on your device and App Store settings.
- Website information: basic server logs and technical information that may be processed when you visit katiba.app, such as request time, page requested, browser type, device type, referring page, and IP address.
- Optional report information: if the app allows you to report content issues or send feedback, we may process the details you submit and any optional contact information you include.
Katiba does not require you to provide your name, phone number, government identifier, precise location, address book, photos, microphone recordings, camera access, or payment information to read constitutional content.
3. Information stored on your device
Features such as bookmarks, reading preferences, search state, and offline content may be stored locally on your device. Local app data generally remains on your device unless you choose to include it in a support request, your operating system backs it up, or a future app feature clearly asks you to sync it.
4. How we use information
We use information for the following purposes:
- Provide, maintain, secure, and improve Katiba.
- Respond to support requests and troubleshoot reported issues.
- Understand whether app features are working as expected.
- Investigate crashes, bugs, abuse, security incidents, or service problems.
- Maintain records needed for compliance, accounting, and dispute management.
- Comply with applicable law, lawful requests, and App Store requirements.
We do not sell personal information.
5. Legal bases for processing
Where privacy law requires a legal basis, we process information on one or more of the following bases: your consent, performance of a contract or requested service, our legitimate interests in operating and improving Katiba, protection of users and the app, and compliance with legal obligations.
6. Sharing and service providers
We may share information with service providers that help us operate the app, host the website, deliver email, review diagnostics, or provide App Store distribution and developer tools. These providers may process information only as needed to provide their services to us, subject to their own terms and privacy commitments.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, to investigate abuse or security incidents, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, or transfer of the app or related assets.
7. App Store and device platform data
Apple may process information about app downloads, purchases, crash reports, diagnostics, and usage according to Apple's own privacy policies and your device settings. Katiba receives only the developer-facing information Apple makes available, such as aggregated analytics and diagnostics. We do not control Apple's independent processing of App Store or device account information.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
The Katiba mobile app does not need advertising cookies to provide its core reading features. The public website may use standard hosting and security technologies that process technical request data. If analytics are added in the future, this policy will be updated to describe the provider, purpose, and available choices.
9. Data retention
We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy. Support messages are normally retained while the request is active and for a reasonable period afterward for quality, security, and recordkeeping. Diagnostic and server log data may be retained for shorter periods unless needed to investigate a problem, protect the app, or comply with legal obligations.
You can ask us to delete a support conversation by emailing support@katiba.app. We may need to keep limited records when required by law, necessary for security, or needed to resolve disputes.
10. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. No app, website, email system, or internet transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. International transfers
Katiba and its service providers may process information in countries other than your country of residence. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as contractual protections or other lawful transfer mechanisms.
12. Your privacy choices and rights
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, or withdrawal of consent for certain personal information. You can also manage some diagnostics and analytics sharing in your iOS device settings.
To make a privacy request, email support@katiba.app. We may ask for information needed to verify and process your request. If you are in Kenya, you may also have the right to raise concerns with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner where applicable.
13. Children
Katiba provides educational and civic information, but it is not directed at collecting personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent personal information to support, contact us and we will review and delete it where appropriate.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice in the app or on the website.
15. Contact
